Bilateral DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction and Nipple Recon inThe Woodlands, TX

This inspiring woman was diagnosed with a right breast cancer for which her breast surgical oncologist recommended a skin-sparing mastectomy to remove the breast tissue and nipple-areola complex. The patient opted to also have a left prophylactic mastectomy. Immediate bilateral microvascular breast reconstruction was performed with DIEP flaps, using excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. She achieved a dramatic flattening and smoothing of the anterior abdomen, comparable to a cosmetic tummy tuck. Three months later a revision procedure was performed with autologous fat grafting to enhance the reconstructed breast shape and nipple mound reconstruction with skin flap rearrangement. The patient was very happy with her reconstructive outcome at this point and decided not to have areolar tattooing performed.
