This very nice lady in her late 60's presented to Albright Plastic Surgery on the referral of her breast surgical oncologist to discuss lumpectomy reconstruction options. She had been diagnosed with right breast cancer and the patient desired breast conservation therapy. Oncoplastic reduction-mastopexy was offered as an adjunct to her lumpectomy. The intended goals were to lift the breasts, improve symmetry, and alleviate her symptoms of neck pain, upper thoracic back pain, and shoulder pain, which she associated with having large breasts. In addition, it was felt that this would facilitate post-lumpectomy radiation and also reduce her risk for future breast cancer. To reconstruct the lumpectomy cavity, immediate reconstruction with breast tissue rearrangement was performed in combination with a Wise pattern breast lift. Approximately 300 grams of tissue was removed from each side and her breast ptosis (drooping) was corrected in the same surgery as her lumpectomy. After adequate healing, the patient proceeded to right breast radiation treatments. Her postoperative photos demonstrate excellent breast symmetry and lifted breast shape 18 months after her breast cancer treatments.
