This pleasant woman in her 50's was diagnosed with right breast cancer and had 2 areas of concern on imaging. Her breast surgeon referred her to discuss oncoplastic surgery techniques that might make her a better candidate for breast conservation therapy. The patient proceeded to right lumpectomy and an additional excisional biopsy at a second site. Immediate breast tissue rearrangement was performed to fill the lumpectomy cavities utilizing a modified mastopexy (breast lift) technique. A left mastopexy was performed for symmetry, removing 120 grams of tissue and lifting the nipple. To account for right breast tissue changes following radiation, an inferior sling of GalaForm 3D bioresorbable mesh was inserted to the left breast to provide long-term tissue support for maintenance of breast symmetry. This material is broken down and absorbed by the body over 18-24 months. Six-month postop photos taken after right breast radiation reveal smooth contours and good symmetry. The pigmented scars will continue to fade with time.
